Affirmations – Positive Words of Power

affirmations and positive thoughts for changing your outlook

These days affirmations are everywhere. Bought into the spotlight from the wellness and life coaching book ‘The Secret,’ now celebrities from Oprah (duh!) to Miranda Kerr and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham have something to say on the subject. So what’s all the fuss about? Read on and find out!

Affirmations are the New Age prayer to self for quick esteem and love boost! What does this exactly mean? They are anything you say or think. When these are positive, they can help you challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts.
A lot of what we normally think and say can be quite negative and doesn’t create good experiences or feelings for us. A positive affirmation is the conscious retraining of negative thoughts into positive ones. We have to retrain our thinking and speaking into positive patterns if we want to change our lives for the better!

Some call affirmations, “wishful thinking,” but this doesn’t mean they are unrealistic or unattainable.

Many of us do yoga and/or repetitive exercises to improve our physical health, and affirmations are like exercises for our mind and outlook. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.

When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes and can create the life of your dreams.

The problem with negative thoughts is that they can become self-fulfilling prophecies. We talk ourselves into believing that we’re not good enough. And, as a result, these thoughts drag down our personal lives, our relationships, and our careers. The power of positive thinking has been known to help with depression and in some cases even beat it. Depression has many causes, however, thoughts of not being worthy, low self-esteem, or not being enough play a huge role.

But, if we deliberately do the opposite and use positive thoughts about ourselves, the effect can be just as powerful but far more helpful. Think improved confidence, self esteem, self love, mental clarity and overall wellness to name a few.
An affirmation can work, because it has the ability to program your mind into believing the stated concept.

Everyone will have positive affirmations that will work for them, but here are some good ones to start off you mornings with.

  • I am strong
  • I can do this
  • I am worthy of love
  • I am going to be positive and have a great day
  • I love myself and who I am
  • I am excellent at what I do.
  • Life wants the best for me

Find one (or many) that resonate with you and repeat them to yourself, in the morning, throughout the day and any time you feel a negative thought creeping up!
